The
Son

He
saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon
Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the
Son of the living God. Matthew 16.15,16
Many
are familiar with what the Lord Jesus did on the cross.
But the key to the work of the Lord Jesus is the Person
of the Lord Jesus. Who is He? According to the Scriptures,
when Jesus died on the cross, He put away the sin
of all those for whom He died. Why is it that Jesus
death could accomplish such work while no one else's
death could? The primary reason lies in Who Jesus
is.
When
the Lord asked His disciples who they thought He was,
Peter gave this God-inspired answer:
Thou
art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
The
Lord told Peter that he had not some to this understanding
by his own investigation. The truth of Christ is not
by investigation, but by revelation. Peter's answer
is two-part: Jesus is Christ, and Jesus is the Son
of God. We shall look at the Lord's Sonship in this
article. Articles concerning His Christhood can be

of this article.
The very Person of the Lord Jesus is a mystery, as
it is written:
And
without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:
God was manifest in the flesh.
(1
Timothy 3.16)
Therefore,
we should not be surprised to find it difficult, even
impossible, to understand the essence of Christ's
Person. Many have been spiritually destroyed in an
attempt to make human sense out of this Divine mystery.
We shall be content to believe what the Scriptures
say concerning the Lord Jesus even if it does not
fit well into our way of thinking.
