Eager to Do Good
[Our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ] gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. Titus 2.14
The sacrifice of our Lord Jesus had a purpose to it, and part of that purpose was to gain for Himself a people that are eager to do what is good. I think that sometimes our eyes are set on the wrong goal. Our conscience has taught us to watch out for evil, and avoid it. But the result of this is that our eyes are continually on evil, and our actions generally bear that out. However, if we, instead, focus our eyes on what is good, with the thought of pursuing it, then our minds will be on what is good, and our actions will bear that out.
I am certain that evil will find me without me looking for it: and may I have the grace to “just say ‘no’,” when evil appears. But, instead of me looking for evil that I may say, “No,” to it, let me look for good that I may say, “Yes,” to it, to the glory and pleasure of my Savior.
