A Believer's Biography
This past week I had the occasion to
write concerning each member of my childhood family,
I wrote the following concerning myself:
“As for me, God has dealt with me like Jacob:
despite some awful life choices, God has put me in
a providential stream that has prevented me from bringing
disaster on myself. The current of His grace has been
too strong for me to resist, so I have been uncooperatively
but happily brought to where I am. As David wrote,
“The boundary lines have fallen out for me in
pleasant places.” But I did not draw them, God
did, and He put up a fence to keep me in.”
As I reread it, I was so blessed in my heart to know
it is true – true of me and true of every son
of Jacob in this world. Does it not fill you with
wonder that you have been singled out by God for eternal
blessings, and forcefully and providentially made
to walk in His way of life? Can you not look back
on a life of foul-ups and outright rebellions and
be dumbstruck that God has preserved you in them all?
Oh, the sovereign grace of God: rejoice in its past
accomplishments, rest in its future provisions and
proclaim its glories to all around you!
