Hymn of the Day

(tune: O, For a Thousand Tongues to Sing, p.46)

Come let us join our cheerful songs

With angels 'round the Throne

Ten thousand thousand are their tongues

But all their joys are one.

"Worthy the Lamb that died," they cry

"To be exalted thus"

"Worthy the Lamb," our lips reply

"For He was slain for us."

Let all that dwell above the sky

And air, and earth, and seas

Conspire to lift Thy glories high

And speak Thine endless praise.

The whole creation join in one

To bless the sacred Name

Of Him who sits upon the Throne

And to adore the Lamb.

There are yet many of our congregation suffering illnesses of various sorts. Keep them before the Lord in payer.

Man's entire apostasy and death in sin, so that he cannot save himself, and God's entire supremacy, so that He saves whom He will, are doctrines exceedingly distasteful to human pride.  But they are Scriptural.  Why was one thief saved and the other lost?  "Even so Father for so it seemed good in Thy sight" (Matthew 11:25-27).  God was not bound to save the one and He had power enough to have saved the other, and neither could save himself.  What made the difference?  The Sovereign grace of God!  -Horatius Bonar

To be saved from sins is to be saved from ignoring and despising the authority of God.  It is to abandon the course of self-will and self-pleasing.  It is to forsake our way; it is to surrender to God's authority; it is to yield to His dominion; it is to give ourselves over to be ruled by Him.  One who has never taken Christ's yoke upon himself and who is not truly seeking to please Him in all details of life and yet supposing he is resting in Christ is deceived. -Scott Richardson

I'm not sure when it began but it seems to me that it was in the early part of the last century.  It began, I imagine, on a small scale but it soon picked up steam.  The glory of God would no longer be the main purpose of the worship services but was replaced with the dignity of man.  It soon did not matter what the Word of God declared; it was now, "I'll do it my way".   It was in effect saying: "Goodbye, God"!

The sovereignty of God would no longer be preached for this offends the dignity of man.  Never mind that God is offended by the unworthy statements made about Him.  God is presented now as One to be pitied rather than worshipped.  The depravity of man would no longer be preached for this offends man's lofty thoughts about himself.  The electing grace of God would no longer be preached for this offends fallen man's sense of fairness.  The effectual atoning blood of the Lord Jesus Christ would no longer be preached for this offends man's trust in his good works.  The calling and preserving grace of God would no longer be preached because the confidence now is: "I'll do it my way."

Oh, that the Lord would be pleased to visit our land again in awakening power.    -David Pledger

Apart from Jesus Christ there is no reason for me or anyone else to exist. He is our reason for everything for time and eternity. Colossians 1:16-17  "For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:  And he is before all things, and by him all things consist." - John Chapman

It is more profitable and enjoyable to love than to hate, to forgive than to hold a grudge, to smile than to quarrel, to behave kindly than to act ugly. The way of the transgressor is hard, not the way of the believer. – Henry Mahan

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.   ~Galatians 5:22

The will of the Father is peace, having purposed and ordained that we should be reconciled unto Himself and the way in which it would be accomplished. The work of the Son is peace, having wrought it by the blood of His cross. The fruit of the Spirit, bearing witness of the Father's will, the Son's work, and our interest, by faith, in these and having quickened us and indwelt us, is peace.

Though by nature I am like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. (Isaiah 57:20), by His grace and working I am His little lamb, eating the tender grass and drinking the still waters of His precious Person and work.

I have peace in my conscience, though my sin is ever before me, knowing that all my guilt and its penalty have been borne by my blessed Substitute.

I have peace in my mind, though the weight of the world bear upon it, for all my "demons" have been cast out and all storms of doubt and fear calmed by the Master, Who careth for me.

I have peace in my heart, being fully satisfied and delighted with Him Who is satisfied and delighted with me, having washed me from my sin in His own blood and clothed me with that robe of purest white.

I shall depart this life in peace having seen the One Simeon saw (Luke 2:29, 30), the Salvation of God. I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety. (Psalm 4:8) -Chris Cunningham

Paul cried out, "Who shall deliver me from this body of death?" We struggle against our flesh, but we must never expect to be delivered from our flesh and the corruption that comes with it while still in this life. However, we give thanks to God for the assured hope that someday we shall be delivered, and we thank Him for the One by whom we shall be delivered – even our Lord Jesus Christ!   -Joe
